You always imagined how freeing it would be to work from home: Setting your own schedule, working in your pajamas, and being close to your family. But if you’ve never worked at home before, then you might be surprised at just how easy it is to get distracted and veer away from your goals.
How do you avoid getting distracted? By using these five tips.
One of the best ways to boost your productivity is by creating a daily schedule or to do list. That way, you know exactly what you need to accomplish before you even turn your computer on for the day.
But here’s the key:
Break your list up into easily manageable steps so that you don’t get overwhelmed. For example, if you need to write a sales letter, then don’t put ‘write a sales letter’ as a task. Instead, break the task up into manageable steps, such as:
- Research competing sites and products.
- Brainstorm headlines.
- Write the opener.
- Create the bullets.
- Write a guarantee.
And so on. You’ll feel much more motivated and productive every time you cross one of those smaller completed items off your list.
If you’re like most marketers, you’ll probably pull long days at times. Even though you enjoy the work, you can’t help but be tired near the end of the day. And that’s why you should do your creative tasks early in the day while your mind is still fresh.
Your “early day” activities might include:

During this block of time you work nonstop, without interruption. At the end of the block of time you can stretch, refill your beverage, etc. Then reset your timer for another productive block of time.
When you schedule your work time, be sure to tell other household members that you don’t wish to be interrupted. If you have kids, you may have to schedule your work time when they’re in school or asleep.
Here are other tips for reducing distractions:
- Turn off your phone and let the voicemail pick up.
- Check your email once and then close that window so that you aren’t checking it repeatedly.
- Close all other unnecessary browser windows, such as forums, YouTube, etc. (TIP: If you don’t need to be online, then close ALL browser windows or even disconnect from the Net so you’re not tempted to surf.)
Finally, you can increase your daily productivity by getting organized before you start working. Ideally, you should get organized the night before.
Example: If you need to do some reading for research purposes, then put your needed books on your desk and be sure any websites you need to visit are already in your bookmarks.

So, which one should you choose?
Truthfully, it doesn’t matter. If you’re selecting from a list of proven business models like those listed above (and not some unproven fad), then any of them will make money for you. As such, the one you choose depends on your likes, dislikes and your ability to do the required work.
Example: Making and selling your own products is a great model and usually considered one of the most profitable models. However, if you hate doing things like creating products or dealing with customer service issues, then you might not enjoy this model and thus it won’t be profitable for you personally.
Point is, choose a model that’s a good fit for you. And once you’ve made your choice, move to the next step.
Just as there are many models to choose from, there are also many gurus and training courses that can teach you about the model. Again, make a list of proven courses and teachers and then select just one. It should be more than enough to get you on the path to success.

One of the reasons many people fail is because they don’t stick with their model or training long enough to see results. They see something else bright and shiny, and they abruptly move in a new direction.
Example: The person might set up a blog, make a dozen posts and then write ten articles to promote the blog. But before the blog makes even one sale, the marketer decides to drop the blog and try domain name flipping instead. End result: He chases every new idea and never makes a dime from any of them.
You can avoid this simply by committing to stick with ONE thing until you see results.
Example: If you decide to become an affiliate marketer, then follow your training guide’s instructions exactly, and stick with it until you see results. No matter how alluring other models or new products on the market are to you, just keep your eye on your goal.

When it comes to starting your work at home business, few things are more intimidating than creating your very own website – especially if you don’t know your way around the technical side of things. While there are many terrific options out there for new or inexperienced business owners, getting started can have some hassles.
There are a few steps you can take to make your cyber home comfortable and cozy. Start by purchasing your very own web domain. With so many websites offering “free” domain names, this may sound silly to spend money on.
But many of these sites are really just giving you a subdomain – for example:
mybusinesssite.whatever.com. Not only is that difficult to remember for consumers, but if your customers mistype your site address, they could land on a site that’s offensive or contains a virus costing you valuable clients.
Buying your own domain name immediately gives your site credibility in the eyes of web visitors. While you’re at it, avoid free hosting. When you use free hosting (examples: blogger.com, wordpress.com, webs.com, etc.) your site is bound by another company’s terms of service.
Let’s say you’re running a health and beauty business and your website is being freely hosted. Now let’s say this free host provider suddenly has an influx of spammers taking over the health and beauty category.
Suddenly, your top notch website is mistakenly labeled spam and you log on one day to find it’s disappeared – deleted without warning. Your existing customers don’t know where to find you online and you’re losing out on potential customers and sales.
If you can afford it, pay for hosting. You’ll rest easy at night knowing you won’t wake up tomorrow to find the website you worked so diligently on suddenly deleted. While you should be paying for hosting, you shouldn’t have to go broke paying for it.
Expect to pay between four and ten dollars per month for hosting. If you pay more than that, then you’re overpaying. If you pay less than that, then read the fine print very carefully.
Once you have a domain and hosting, how can you build a professional looking site with correct search engine optimization that attracts thousands of visitors each day? While you can certainly pay a web designer for a fancy site with all the bells and whistles, you don’t have to.
You can research free open source software for building your very own website. These software packs even include professional templates for you to use. Some suggested open source software is WordPress, Joomla and others. All are great options to use for your website. And if you get a host that has Cpanel, then installing your new software will be a breeze!

Internet marketing is full of a lot of choices, and your first choice is deciding on which business model you are going to follow. If you don’t make this choice carefully, you’ll find yourself hopping from business model to business model, spending money on programs and “secrets,” and not making any profits at all. Trust me when I say that finding a business model that appeals to you and working with that model will go a long way toward helping you succeed online.
There are a few basic business models to choose from. Each of them have their advantages and disadvantages. By looking over this list and considering your strengths, you should know where you want to focus your business.
When you create your own product, you are in complete control of your stream of income. By writing a product, or hiring a ghostwriter to write one, you can set up a website and sell your product over and over again. You can set up an affiliate program so other people are selling the product for you. The only major downside is that you can spend a lot of time and money working on a niche product that may not pan out.
Unlike being a product creator, with affiliate marketing you don’t have to spend time and money creating a product. You just need to be good at promoting the product. You’ll earn commissions for sending buyers to the product creator’s website. With the right promotional techniques, you can establish yourself in the niche and make affiliate commissions from several different programs all at once. On the other hand, you are at the whim of the product creator when you use this business model. You never know when a product creator will stop offering the product.
Starting your own membership site is another option. With affiliate programs and information products, you’ll earn money from a one time sale. When you own a membership site, you’ll have an ongoing stream of income coming from one website. You can provide monthly reports on a niche topic, host a forum or offer coaching for a flat fee each month. You can even use an affiliate program with your membership site so that other people will send new members your way. The downside is that you need to keep providing fresh content each month to keep your members sticking around.
eBay is one of the most frequently visited sites on the entire Internet. When you become an eBay seller, you’ll never have to worry about finding traffic for your offering. You can sell a variety of different things on eBay, including information products. Although there have been some recent changes to the way information products are sold on eBay, the amount of traffic and ease of setting up your offering make eBay a strong business model. The downside is that your business relies on a third party site who’s changing rules may negatively effect your business in the future.
As you can see, there are ups and downs to every business model available online. By looking at your own strengths and what you want to get out of your business, you should be able to find the right model for you.
A domain name is like a virtual identification card. It’s a way for people to verify your online presence. Many mistakenly believe having a bad domain name is better than not having one at all, which is incorrect.
Having a bad domain name can backfire and even cause you to lose customers. Having a bad domain name makes you look unprofessional while a good domain name leaves a positive impression and fosters a feeling of trust within your clients.
A well chosen domain name will also allow your website to rank higher in search engine results, which in turn allows your site to be seen by even more people. Since your domain name will be on your letterhead, business cards, and more if you choose to take the business offline as well, you’ll want to choose a name that is reflective of your business.
Now that you understand the importance of a domain name, it’s time to make a list of potential domain names for your website. You don’t just have to use your company name.
In fact, it might be better not to if your company name is long or difficult to spell. One company had a difficult name to remember so it launched a website for its most popular product and found that customers were able to remember that domain name. This resulted in better customer conversions and higher search engine rankings since more customers were searching for the product than the company.
If you’re the face of your brand, you might consider using your name as your domain name. For instance, Martha Stewart and Donald Trump are two people that are the face of their business. If that’s the case for you, then you’ll want to use your name as the domain name. But it’s best to use a keyword in your niche.
Once you’ve come up with a list of potential domain names, go through and cross out anything that’s too long. Try to stay under twenty characters so your domain name is easy to remember.
Cross out anything that might have negative connotations. If you’re using several words write them without spaces to be sure that your domain name wouldn’t be potentially offensive.
After you’ve gone through your list and crossed some out, rank these domain names in order of your most favorite ones to your least favorite ones. Go online and research which domain names are available.
You can do this through a popular domain register like Godaddy or NameCheap. Once you find a domain name that’s available, be sure to Google it before buying it. Make sure that no one else is using a similar name for something dishonest, spammy or offensive. While this might seem like a menial task, you don’t want your business confused with a similar website that’s not ethical.

Your traffic sources can have a big impact on conversion. Strange as it might sound, people who are actually interested in what you’re selling are more likely to buy!
That means visitors who stumble in because of an exit traffic advertisement, or a splash page they were forced to look at on their way to something much more interesting aren’t very likely to make a purchase – or even give your site much attention. No matter how cheaply you got the traffic, it’s worthless if they don’t do that.
When people click to your site from related sites in your niche, or from typing a request for information into a search engine, it still doesn’t guarantee that they’ll make a purchase, but it does make it more likely that they’ll be receptive and read your page.
Can Your Traffic Make A Purchase?
It’s important to make sure that you’re targeting traffic that’s actually capable of purchasing your product. Generally, this means targeting websites and communities that have some expected income level. Stay away from sites offering “worldwide” traffic in bulk –- this usually gets you a lot of traffic from countries with currency that isn’t as valuable as the US dollar. You should also avoid centering your campaign on really young people who might not have a credit card or the means to buy your offer.
What Does Your Traffic Want?
Good keyword research is vital to making sure that your traffic is targeted. Targeting keywords that chase “information seekers” instead of “potential buyers” can be a recipe for disappointment. Look at websites that are ranking for your targeted keyword and ask yourself whether your site “fits” with those results, and whether you can do a better job of meeting the needs they’re trying to fulfill.
Which Traffic Works?
It’s impossible to do any of this without quality statistical tracking. The Internet is an information marketplace and marketers are always looking for fast ways to get information to their demographic. So grabbing some PLR (private label rights) or master resell rights (MRR) content can be a good choice. But what are the differences between these two forms of content and which one should you invest in?
It depends on what your purpose is. If you want to sell an eBook that you can allow customers to then sell themselves, like a chain reaction, then MRR may be what you want.
But if you want to take authorship and you want to add your affiliate links to it and basically “make it yours,” then you’ll want to get a product with a PLR license. MRR often doesn’t allow you to alter the product in any way – just sell it.

Although there are ways to rebrand MRR products with your name and links, you are still limited as to how you can distribute it.

I’m not going to name names here but there are some Internet marketing guides on the market that can seriously waste your time and money – as well as some that will literally grow your business as if you had a personal mentor standing right beside you.
There’s a process you have to have for sizing up these tutorials. Some newbie ‘net marketers get so lost with this process and end up buying anything and everything they can because they’re grasping at straws – and they end up with a lot of hurt, anger and frustration because most of what they invested in is worthless.
Here’s what you need to think about whenever your emotions start calling on you to whip out your wallet and spend money on another Internet marketing guide:
- Can you afford it? Please don’t overlook this crucial piece of the formula. If you trust that person, then you can trust the recommendation. If they promote anything and anyone, then you have to research it yourself before you shell over money you don’t have for something that may (or may not) be of use to you.

The more articles you have out there, the more your name will get in front of the eyes of the people who you are trying to reach you become an authority in your field.
A newer way to use PLR articles is to convert them into a slideshow made with Microsoft PowerPoint that is recorded as you read it. Done properly, you can have a really nice video to promote your site from YouTube or other video sharing sites.
Because video is a popular mode of communication, you should take any way you can to get it out in front of your target audience. PLR articles converted to video as well as already made PLR videos that you buy are a quicker way to get that kind of media out there.

Techniques for traffic conversion are well known in the Internet marketing community, but most that are used are basic. They work well, but not spectacularly. What you need is to find a new twist on traffic conversion.
Perhaps what you need isn’t something different, but a different approach. You might find that taking an unexpected route is just what your site needs to increase buyer response.

Make a Limited Time Offer. Create urgency by offering a one time purchase to a limited number of buyers for a short time. This plays to fear (“what if I miss it”) and scarcity (“I want it before someone else gets it”).
Then take it off the market at the end of the offer. Nothing discredits you more than repeated “limited time” runs. Remove the product, make a few changes or updates and add something else to the package. Then – and only then – can you bring back the product without losing face and buyers.

If you have the knowledge on how to use the technology, you can quickly make an article into a video using PowerPoint and Camtasia. Make sure each sentence is on its own line. Then import the article into PowerPoint. This puts each sentence on its own slide. Then add images to the slides if you want and finally, record yourself reading the slides for an instant viral video.
What can you do with PLR audio? Here is a simple way to make a video. Listen to the recording and take good notes, typing them into a text editor – one sentence per line or paragraph.
Then you can import these notes into PowerPoint, which puts each sentence on a separate slide. Sync the audio with the text slides and it makes a nice video. All you have to do is add an intro slide and watermark your domain name and you’re good to go.
Of course, you can just take the PLR as is, if it’s really good. It’s always suggested that you take the time to make it truly your own by having new graphics made. Even with PLR, you need to take the time to make it unique. Just a simple change in graphics and a bit of reformatting will do the trick. Now it’s all your own!
If you’ve been Internet marketing for long, you’ve come across the term private label rights or PLR. What is PLR and how does it differ from other licenses like master resale rights? And why should you care about the differences?
When we refer to PLR, what is meant is the product, which could be something as simple as a pack of articles or as complex as a complete marketing package with eBooks and audio recordings, has a license granting the new owner the right to use the content as he or she sees fit.
Someone else has done the writing (or recording), and possibly had a nice website template put together with sales letter and graphics. Then, rather than trying to market it themselves, make it available for sale to many others.
Some PLR sites are membership based, meaning the number of buyers is limited. Others have no membership. You might get a lot more content with a membership, but some of it may not be the niche you’re looking for. With a no-membership PLR site, you pick and choose what niche topics you’re going to buy so that none of it ends up gathering dust on your hard drive.
With PLR, you’re given a license that tells specifically what you can and can’t do with the package. The best PLR are those that have an unconditional license that basically allows the new owner to use and redo the product any way they like. You can add your own name, add and delete sections, even sell it on to others with a price that you determine. It’s as if you’re the original author without all of the work of authoring.
Unconditional PLR may have only one proviso – and that is that you can’t turn around and resell it as PLR to others. It pays to shop around for PLR. Pay attention to the wording in the license and if you don’t want to agree to the terms, don’t buy it.
Also, before buying, if you can get a snippet of the text, Google it (in quotes) to see how many times it’s been used on the ‘net. This way you can get an idea of how many others have purchased the same package.
True unconditional PLR is a money and time saver. For $50 to $200 you get top quality, well designed content that you would otherwise spend many countless hours producing by yourself or paying through the nose for a freelancer to do something similar. If your time and money is precious, PLR can be the answer you are looking for.
Getting viewers who click and pass on is no more productive than window shoppers at the mall. You make money online when you capture that traffic and convert the “lookers” into “buyers.” Sounds simple, right?
Well, it is if you pay attention to the details. Here are 12 traffic conversion secrets that even a newcomer to Internet marketing can do:
1. Refine your Unique Selling Proposition (USP). What makes your product different, special, better or more desirable? That’s the USP. Now get the answer to that question down to one or two concise sentences.
2. Sound friendly, not slick. Your sales copy needs to sound like one friend excited to tell another friend about a great buy. Avoid sounding like a high-pressure infomercial.
3. Ask for help. Give the viewers a reason to interact with you by asking for their opinion on a survey or product rating. You get useful information and keep them thinking about your product longer.
4. Simplify the offering. If you have three different products to sell, use three websites. Don’t make the mistake of trying to offer too much at once. This might work for major retailers, but they already have a brand and a following.
5. Leave some open space. Prepare a sales page that’s easy to read with wide margins. You don’t have to fill every inch. Leaving some white space helps the reader to better focus on the copy.
6. Brag openly. If your product has a good rating or endorsements from satisfy buyers, then let them brag about the product for you.
7. Cast with plenty of bait. In your sales letter and squeeze page, put out the “bait” for your offer over and over. Don’t skimp on bait. Better too many offers than not enough to convert that buyer who is still uncertain.
8. Find problems. Even after your sales page is complete, keep thinking about other problems that your product can solve. You might get a hint of new ways to promote your product by asking buyers how they use the product.
9. Use moderate highlighting. Yes, highlights draw visual attention but too many highlights or excessive colors frustrate online readers.
10. Package deals are popular. After presenting your USP, sweeten the offer with a package including several free items as part of the “Buy Now” deal. Limited time offers create a sense of urgency for the buyer to act.
11. Ask for the order. An old principle of sales that must never be ignored – ask for the order, ask again then ask again. You can’t ask too many times.
12. Say “Thank you.” Have a gracious, personal sounding, “Thank you” email with the order confirmation. It never hurts to show good manners and buyer appreciation!
Grabbing the attention of an online surfer is challenging enough, so you want to turn as many viewers as possible into actual buyers. And you want to entice buyers to become repeat buyers.
Once you’ve told the product story, how do you get them to push that “buy button” again? Here are some traffic conversion hot buttons to add to your site today:
1. Expose your competition’s warts. You can expect popular products to attract competitors. Study the competition and find the weaknesses or differences that you can exploit. Do you deliver faster or offer discount shipping, give choice of downloads or CDs, gift wrap, ship internationally? Let buyers know what sets you apart from your competitors.
2. Go ahead – name drop! Find a celebrity to endorse your product. Not necessarily a movie star, just people who are known and respected in your niche market. Send your product out to niche superstars and ask for their honest review as well as permission to use the comments on your website. You benefit for the star power of the endorsers.
3. Prove it! Find research that advances your product in the marketplace. Even a basic study that shows “7 out of 10 people who regularly exercise are less likely to get prickly heat,” might be linked loosely to your product. Make the connection reasonable. If there isn’t any research, make your own by using results from an online survey or poll.
4. Test yourself. Create three different pitches that play on your main product. Use each page for 10 days. At the end of the month, compare results. The pitch that captures the most buyers isn’t always the one you like the most. Remember, it’s about what clicks with the buyer – even if it isn’t your favorite.
5. Befriend to win. Make sure that your sales copy creates a connection with your buyer. You can make money with straight sales copy but you’ll make more money when you build a relationship with buyers.
Let them into your life enough that they care about you and they will be more willing to invest in your products. You can set up a forum to discuss your niche interest or add short reviews from your buyers.
Feature a buyer with a photo and candid interview. When you give buyers reasons to drop by regularly, then you are developing a relationship. Needless to say, your “special offer” email gets read when others are sent to the trash folder.
