Canadian/Ontario starting small business, what do I need to know?
My business is simple and straightforward. I work out of my own home. I am a self employed Birth Doula, it is like a labour coach. I meet with women throughout their pregnancy, and help them through their labour. I do have other Doulas as backup but my business is strictly my own with no other employees.I want to do things legit I want to be able to provide my clients with a receipt, and I want to know what I need to do to be legally working.I called Service Canada and they were of no help. The girl on the phone said " We can't tell you what you need to do that's up to you. We can only give you the resources." and she asked me if I wanted to register my business name, etc.The problem is, I don't KNOW what I need to do. Yes, I do want to register my business name, but what else do I need to know? I want this to be as simple as possible, I don't need all the bells and whistles, but I do want to be running my business in a professional manner and be doing things correctly regarding taxes and stuff.Thanks for your help.

Okay. So me and my friend want to start a group, where kids who can't afford music lessons can get music lessons for free. It would be a non profit organization. My friend Kirah and me will teach singing. I will teach basic instruments. And our friends Jewel and Claire would teach dance. We would probably find a few others to help us. Is this possible to do? The kids would be under 10. What would I need to get started ex. contact list, microphones, place to stay. OH and where would we hold rehearsals at? DO you think a church would let us hold practice? Hi there I'm starting a small business of sorts. It's not the kind of business with a building office. I have a talent for doing makeup, and I plan on doing it semi professionally for special events. Photo shoots, homecoming, prom, etc etc . I'm young, and I'm kind of ignorant as to how business works. As far as pricing . How much should I charge for my services? What kind of specials should I have? What should I charge for glamour parties? I ask this because big corporations don't look out for the best interest of everyone the whole country , they just focus on increasing profits, even if it means cutting employees and outsourcing jobs to foreign countries for cheap labor.Local businesses however, would hire local workers.Alpha Beta, you are right, point well taken. However, I'm not talking specifically about a particular corporation. I think you missed my point. I'm trying to see a bigger picture. Theoretically, if more unemployed people became entrepreneurs and started up local businesses, would that improve the economy?

Best approach for getting a loan to start small business?
I have always wanted to start a musical instrument rental business. I am currently a Freshman in college and don't have really any background with business. I do however have a lot of background in the musical instrument market. I have been buying and selling instruments for quite some time now and I have been very successful at it. I have put a lot of thought and calculations into this and I should be able to make quite a bit of money on this. If the bank needed me to show them any of my calculations then I could provide it to them. I have all the sources I would need to buy the instruments for good prices. The problem is, I don't have enough money to get an inventory started on my own. I would need probably over $5,000 to start. I was wondering first, if any bank would even think of giving a 19 year old student a loan for a small business and if they would, how should I go about doing it? What should I look for etc?Thanks

Im 21 years old and i have been screen printing for about two years now. I have a solid clientele and i feel im now ready to take that next step and finally lease out a place. Its a store front located on a main st. in a very busy part of los angeles. The deal is great its only 1000 a month month to month for a 1600 sqft store front first month free. I plan to eventually put up a wall and make the front of the place a retail store where i would do consignment with other clothing lines and sell my own brand too, and the back would be my print shop where id print for other companies.I have enough money for the down payment, business license, business cards, website, and internet which i feel are necessities.as far as organization goes, i already know how to deal with costumers and i have invoices for them to sign things like that.but is there anything else i need?does anyone have tips for me?thanks a ton.
