Possibly starting a catering business - advice?
I've been offered the opportunity to help plan and cater a graduation party. Now, I'm not a caterer by trade, but have a life long love of cooking and have cooked in a higher end restaurant in the past, which included planning and carrying out large scale buffets and events. I think this may work into something more just looking for advice of any sort on the possibility of opening a catering business. Thanks

I am starting a catering business, I need ideas please?
Mostly menu ideas for a casual catering place. Events I would do is like cocktail parties and graduations. What things would you like to see on the menu if it was your event? Also I am thinking of this being an inhome catering, with a full kitchen in my basement. Of course I would go through all the health codes and etc and be professional. Please include any ideas you have Thanks

I want to start a catering business but dont know where to start?!?
Im 21 years old. I've worked in kitchens for virtually all of my working life so far...since I first started work when I was around seventeen years old. Ive worked in fast food, cafe's and michellin star restaurants and been trained by some of the best chefs in my local area.I cook for my family every night of the week or near enough and have done for a long time now. But work at the moment and finding jobs is not only becoming a hassle due to the lack of them, but I'm also starting to realise its just not what I want to do. I want my own business, I want to be my own boss. The problem is, I want to start a catering business. I do live with my parents but they are quite wealthy and so we live in quite a large house with a good kitchen with everything I'd need. I have permission from them to bring someone in from the council to certify the kitchen as a place to prepare food for business. The only issue I'm having is...I dont drive. So I couldnt deliver things to people properly and lets face it...what would want to pick food for a special event up from some random house?Getting a car is out of the question. The price for insurance alone at the moment for my age is absolutley disgusting as Im sure you already know but I wont rant about that.Im hoping for some ideas as to how to get started, and get my feet of the ground. My only idea so far is to raise cash and experience by offering a private chef service and going to houses in the local area to prepare meals for customers. Fine dining meals .Any ideas or people that have been in a similar position when starting up?Thanks guys.

Starting a catering business- insurance, kitchen and license question?
So we've read all the books, we've bought all the equipment and now we're ready to start our business but wait We need A business licenseA commercial kitchen hopefully one we can rent from a church A health inspection InsuranceOur questions are What comes first? Do we need a kitchen first and then insurance? Or do we find insurance first? What exactly am I insuring? I do NOT want to insure my equipment I only want to insure the kitchen, and a possible lawsuit incase of an unfortunate illness. If it means anything we're based out of Nashville, TN and we have minimal staff under 5 employees . We can accommodate up to 200 guests.I need a well educated individual who can put these goals in order for me. We'd appreciate any feedback Thank you.
