Landlord has guest house hooked on to my electricity?
I just moved into a new house with my boyfriend in the beginning of February. When I moved in I wasn't aware of the issue of the guest house on his property being on my electric meter. My boyfriend noticed it while inspecting some things on the property and talked to him, he mentioned if and when he has someone he could give us 1.50 a day. Here's the thing... I never agreed to this and I'm the one that signed the lease. Of course my boyfriend conveniently forgot to tell me until I received an updated lease that the landlord WROTE in the new agreement onto the copy I already signed. Not to mention I've now seen lights on in there every so often, plus who knows what appliances are on in there. We shut the breaker off for his house today because now this is the 2nd night in a row we saw lights on all night and no notice from my landlord. He called right afterwords of course and said he's had a guest for 4 days and they will be living there permanently. I don't know what my rights are and where to go from here. I told him 1.50 a day is not alright. He said we can split my bill in 3rds. But I do not know how much this youngster will be using. I had just received my 2nd months PGE bill and it is 708kwh vs 350 last month. That's quite a jump for not doing anything substantially different. So sure I can live with splitting it if I can know how much she's using. But right now I don't know and I'm being screwed. Is it even legal to have this on my meter? Not to mention I asked and he wont tell me the details of what appliances air conditioning which we do not have heating it is. We have gas heat, so i'm assuming they might as well, but I could be wrong. I don't know these details and he's not giving them out to me. I feel this is a gross abuse of my rights as a tenant. Am I wrong? Please advise... I don't know what to do or where to go from here.Ok I need to amend this. I've been talking with my boyfriend. Apparently he never mentioned it to the landlord. That was my misunderstanding. So nothing's been mentioned to him. But after paying my rent for March a new copy of the lease showed up and this had the written in " agreement" . No one had agreed to this though although he wrote it on the paper with my signature I do have the copy he gave me that doesn't have it though . So now looking through things I see the Shared Meter law CA 1940.9 and it says he needs to tell me beforehand, which he didn't a month later. And 2nd, I never agreed to it. 3rd, there has been usage and he hasn't notified of paid me even with his own payment scheme.No the new lease was never signed. Fortunately it's just a month to month contract so I won't be breaking it when I move out ASAP this man is shady I signed a rental agreement when I moved in. I paid March rent, and he provided a receipt a few days later taped to my door. Along with that receipt was an envelope which had our exact agreement photocopied and added with a black marker the ordeal of the guest cottage being on our meter and he would provided $1.50 day when said cottage is being occupied.It was never signed by me, just attached to my door. It was on the agreement I had signed previously, which fortunately is dated and I have the original copy. So there's no way this is a legal agreement because I never agreed.
How many hours should a live in housekeeper work in exchange for guest house?
I should title this 'house assistant' not housekeeper but anyway, I am looking to provide my guest house for someone who can assist me in daily things around my house. I am not 100 % on how to make the arrangement. The guest house has its own entrance and courtyard along with private bathroom. I think here in Las Vegas they rent for about $500 $600 per month. I will also be including all utilities and food, I will also provide paper products, a convection oven for them to cook in & mini fridge since there is no kitchen. I wouldn't mind paying $100 out of pocket a month so they can pick there own snacks beyond what I purchase. I would like the person to do a variety of things. Some ideas I have include them coming in at the end of the day and doing a cleanup of the kitchen and vacuuming of the main areas of the downstairs, occasional laundry done, groceries away, prep for dinners, whatever I may need extra help with. How many hours per week is fair to have this person assist me in exchange for the guest house? I cant really afford to come out of pocket $ for this. Obviously this would just be part time.

One thing that comes to mind is that the tenants' mail for both the main house and guest house would have to be delivered to the same mailbox. Could I require the tenants to get a post office box instead to eliminate the mixing of their mail? And do I have to get the permission of the tenants in the main house in order to have the tenants of the guest house walking along one side of the main house in order to get to the guest house? And I'm also thinking that I would have to have utilities included in both the tenants' rent since the main house and guest house are probably not metered separately. Or perhaps I could have a separate meter installed?

I am moving and have a housing question. I was wondering how one can search for guest house or apartment searches online. The issue that I am having is that I have a small pet and most of these places do not accept pets. What are some FREE search websites where one can seek housing options?
